Jack's First Cyclone Game

Saturday was going to be a big day for Jack, he was going to get to go to his first Iowa State Football game. However, Kayden had been sick during the week and Jack developed pink eye Friday night. Saturday Kayden woke up with a fever, and Jack still had red, crusty eyes. Mom said we were not going. Dad was sad, the kids were sad, mom said I am not taking sick kids out of town! However, at 11am after being sick and tired of listening to crying and whining about not getting to go....from the kids and Jeff, I gave in. Everyone was feeling fine so we went, and ended up having a good time, and no one got more sick, we all feel fine! We got to Ames around 2:30, found a place to park, and met up with Jeff's fraternity brothers who were having their 10 year reunion. It was nice to see everyone and visit, well Jeff visited and I entertained the kids. After a while we walked them all around and let them see all there is to see while tailgating. We checked out everything, saw the band play, walked through the shopping tents and took them right up to the stadium. Jack liked this pick-up. There was a man standing in it throwing mini-football and the kids all got one, they loved it! Then we got to see all the billboards the fraternities and sororities do for Homecoming. This was Kyle and Jack's favorite because they love the Grinch, and it just happens to be done by Jeff's old fraternity, Alpha Gamma Rho. We went into the shopping tent, I was going to let Jack buy a new stocking cap, but he didn't want one. Kyle however found something he was very adamant that we buy. So of course his dad bought it for him!
And finally we made it to the stadium. The kids were amazed at how big it is. Kyle kept asking where the Cherokee Braves were. How cute! Jack was excited for his first game. We asked Kayden if she wanted to go, but she was getting tired, and so mom took her and Kyle back to our hotel, after doing some shopping first. I would have liked for us all to have gone to the first game together, but with Kayden not feeling well, I was happy to let her miss this one.
Jeff said Jack had a good time. They decided to sit on the hillside with a couple other families Jeff knew and that worked well. Jeff took Jack to the tunnel when the team ran out so he could see them all. (He saw #4 and got excited, he thought it was Cody Ege, who wears #4 for our Braves) And then after half time, he took him back down as the team ran out and he was right by the fence and held out his hand and the players all ran by and gave him a high five. I wish Jeff would have had the camera, but next time we'll get some pictures. Of course, Jack loved the band! They stayed until right to the end of the third quarter before Jack was cold and ready to go, but he said he had lots of fun. I think he will be to several more Cyclone games with his daddy!
